Golly Gee Whiz is a fun and frolicking family musical based on the classic Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney films of the 1930's. It is 1939 and even the town of Happyville is depressed, especially the kids. But what can a group of kids do to change the town's economy? "Hey, kids let's put on a show!" says Mickey. "I know my father's got a barn!" exclaims Judy. They are sure it will be such a great show that folks will come from miles around to see it, and re-establish Happyville as the bustling town that it once was. For more info and video clips, click here. Mr. Rockwell wrote Everything About School (Almost) which NORD CCL premiered in summer, 2009.
"The musical, which evokes everything from swing to Cole Porter, will introduce young theatergoers to unfamiliar rhythms as well as a new vocabulary. But most of all Golly Gee Whiz! will prove that the Happyville folks are right: there's no underestimating the power of youngsters to put on a rousing show."

Program Fees
This summer musical program has a $10 application fee and $325 tuition fee for over 120 contact hours over 7 weeks.
Why are there fees for a NORD program?
CCL receives no direct funding through the New Orleans Recreation Department. Funds generated from tuition fees are applied directly to the cost of putting on the show. Tuition covers only 1/5 of the cost per student. Our fundraising efforts through ticket sales and program ad donations help cover a portion of the remaining costs. CCL works very hard to secure additional funding through grants. CCL could not operate without all of these funding sources. CCL strives to keep the tuition low to allow for participation by low to moderate income families.
Need Based Scholarships
A limited number of need based scholarships are available. Applications are available at the open house, online or by contacting our office. For young people who really really want to participate but come from a family of limited means, please contact our office at 504-598-3800 for more information.
